Braithwaite Residents Receive More Help as They Continue to Rebuild – Nader Anthony Odeh

Braithwaite, LA — Hurricane Isaac may be long gone, but nearly two feet of his storm waters still sit in front of the Hernandez home.

“We need the water to go down so we can access our damage. Get in here and do what we need to do,” says Braithwaite homeowner, Gina Hernandez.

As residents try to figure out where to begin their recovery, state-licensed insurance loss experts are holding special sessions to help them cope.

Insurance adjusters are working with residents, educating them about what their duties are as policyholders. Property owners who do not understand how their policy works, and what they can do to receive a better claim settlement.

Tony Odeh says the biggest problem facing residents now is that many have gutted their homes without listing all the contents that were inside at the time Isaac hit.

“What’s going to happen is the insurance company will say, hey you didn’t document it; we don’t have an inventory of it. We’re not going to be able to pay you, I’m sorry,” says Odeh.

There is a boil water advisory from West Pointe-a-la-Hache to Venice on the west bank because of the saltwater intrusion from the Mississippi River. Parish officials are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to bring barges filled with fresh water to the Port Sulfur intake.

Entergy Crews have continued their efforts in Plaquemines Parish. Residents who can receive power have it. Those still without power should call Entergy at 1-800-9-OUTAGE
